Single Cleanup credits
A Single Cleanup is a one-time purchase that permanently unlocks one engagement. Each purchase adds one credit to your account. A credit is spent either when you create a new engagement or when you apply it to an engagement you already started. Credits do not expire.
Buying a credit
Click Create New Engagement on your dashboard. If your plan has room for another subscription-backed engagement, the normal create flow opens and no credit is used. If your plan is saturated and you have no credits left, a prompt appears with two options:
- Buy a single engagement — $29 one-time. Opens Stripe Checkout for a one-time $29 payment. One credit lands on your account as soon as the payment clears; the dashboard redirects back and the engagement slot is ready to use.
- Subscribe to Solo — $49/mo for 5 active engagements. Opens Stripe Checkout for a Solo subscription. Starts with the standard 14-day trial.
You can also buy a credit as an add-on when your plan isn't saturated yet, straight from the pricing page or from the Download Reports menu on any engagement that is still on a Free Preview slot. Buying from the Download Reports menu applies the credit to that engagement as soon as the payment clears.
Applying a credit to an engagement you already started
If you bought a credit before creating your engagement, or bought it from the pricing page rather than from inside the engagement, the credit sits on your account until you spend it. You do not need to buy another one. Open the engagement, click Download Reports, and choose Apply Single Cleanup credit. The engagement unlocks immediately, every period of a multi-period engagement included, and nothing more is charged.
The same option appears on the upload page under the scan counter and on the "scans this month" prompt, so a credit you already hold also clears the Free Preview monthly scan cap for that engagement.
Only the firm owner or an admin can apply a credit. If you are a bookkeeper on someone else's firm, ask the owner to apply it.
An engagement that was downgraded by a refund cannot take a new credit from this menu; email support and we will sort it out.
How slots are consumed
On Solo and Firm, the dashboard prefers a subscription slot when one is available. Credits are the fallback, not the first choice, so you never burn a $29 credit on an engagement your subscription already covers with every feature.
On Free Preview the order is reversed: if you hold an unused credit, a new engagement spends the credit first and the free slot stays available. The free slot locks exports, fix procedures, the checklist, and re-scan, so handing it out ahead of a credit you paid for would leave you looking at a locked engagement with your credit sitting unspent.
Each engagement card shows which slot unlocked it. The badge names the thing paying for that engagement:
- Free Preview means the engagement came from the single granted slot on the Free Preview tier.
- Solo or Firm means the engagement came from your paid subscription quota (Solo 5, Firm unlimited). If you cancel your subscription the engagement drops to Free Preview access: you can still read it, and the Chart of Accounts and Uncategorized Transactions categories stay fully detailed, but the other six categories collapse to a greyed-out preview with an "Upgrade to unlock" link. Exports, fix procedures, JE memos, checklist, and re-scan pause until you resubscribe.
- Single Cleanup means the engagement came from a Single Cleanup credit, either at creation or by applying one later. It stays fully unlocked forever, regardless of your subscription status. Cancelling Solo doesn't touch a Single Cleanup engagement — every category stays in full detail, every export works, every fix procedure generates, re-scan keeps running. The credit paid for permanent Solo-tier access to that one engagement.
What you can and can't do with a purchased engagement
Purchased engagements have every feature the Solo and Firm tiers get: full findings across all eight categories, checklist, fix procedures, JE memos, PDF exports, and re-scan.
Two restrictions keep the "credit = permanent slot" model honest:
- No delete. A purchased engagement can't be deleted, because the credit has been consumed and there's no automatic refund path. If you need one removed, email support.
- No archive. Archiving a purchased engagement would let you park a $29 slot to free up a subscription slot, which muddies the permanent-unlock promise. Keep purchased engagements active; they're yours for good.
Counting credits on the dashboard
The Engagements header shows two lines once you've bought at least one credit:
Solo plan: 3 of 5 engagements used
Purchased: 2 of 4 slots used (2 available)
The plan line counts active, non-demo engagements that came from your plan quota. The purchased line counts credits used out of credits ever bought, and the parenthetical is the balance available for new engagements. Firm-tier accounts don't show the plan line (unlimited has no ceiling to report).
Refunds
Refunds aren't self-service. Email support within 14 days of purchase if you need one. When support issues the refund through Stripe, the following happens automatically:
- Your credit counter decreases by one. If the credit was still unused, only the "purchased" total drops; if you had already spent it on an engagement, "used" drops as well.
- If the refund reverses a credit you had already spent on a engagement, that engagement drops to Free-tier access. You keep the file and can still read it, but the Chart of Accounts and Uncategorized Transactions categories stay in full detail and the other six categories collapse to a greyed preview — the same downgrade you'd see if you cancelled a Solo subscription on a subscription-backed engagement.
- Nothing else changes. Your subscription (if any) is untouched; your other purchased engagements are untouched; your dashboard just shows one fewer credit.
Partial refunds (an admin refunding part of the $29 rather than the whole amount) are not automatically applied to the credit counter — those go through manual review so we can match the intent of the adjustment.
